We are excited to share another amazing interview! 💫 Meet Kari, owner of Adorn Boutique in Inglewood, Calgary and mother of two.
What does a typical day look like?
A typical day for me is pretty hectic! Haha. I am currently trying to balance a very busy 9-month-old, a four-year-old, and a business so it’s very crazy. As an entrepreneur, my days are always pretty different and that’s part of the reason I love owning my own business. I do love to wind down with a barre class in the evening when I can though!
What inspires you?
I would say I’m inspired by Instagram, fashion, photography! I love the social media aspect of my job and love to work on shoots for the store. I get to collaborate with so many amazing women from our city (whether they’re models, designers, photographers) and that’s always so fun and inspiring!
What have you learned about yourself over COVID?
I have learned that I like to interact with people! During COVID I really missed the one-on-one customer experience and all of my #collabs! And I really miss working out in person as well.
What do you love about being a small business owner in Calgary?
Calgary is such a great city full of so many wonderful and friendly people! I love that it’s a big city but it still feels small because we have such a great community! I especially love our wedding industry (whom we work closely with on many projects) and how everyone within it is so supportive and friendly. They really want to help each other succeed.
What is one eye-opening thing you’ve learned since starting your own business?
As a small business owner, I have learned that once you have your own business the work never stops. You can often find me answering DM's and emails late at night after my girls are in bed, or popping into the store early in the morning long before we open. It’s important to set boundaries so that you don’t work too much and I am definitely still perfecting that balance.
